A proud alumnus of Terry Sanford High School, Tom holds a Bachelor of Arts from UNC-Wilmington and two Master's degrees from Fayetteville State University in Teaching History and School Administration.

Over his 32-year career, he has served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal at various schools. His community involvement includes being an active member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church and serving as a commissioner for the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission.

A fun fact: Tom performed a tandem jump with the Golden Knights in October 2018 to bring the game ball into the stadium during his tenure as principal at Terry Sanford High School.

His Why.

Tom Hatch is running for the Cumberland County School Board - District 3 because he is passionate about creating a better future for our children. Having spent over three decades in education, he understands the challenges and opportunities within our school system. Tom believes that with the right leadership, we can make a significant impact on the lives of students, teachers, and the community.

Goals.

Tom is committed to increasing funding for teacher supplements, staff bonuses, and coaching pay to ensure that Cumberland County is competitive with the top districts in the state. He advocates for a moratorium on school vouchers, reinstating the cap on charter schools, and fully funding teacher recruitment and retention efforts. Tom also aims to revise board policies to support high-quality public school choice options and to ensure safe schools by overhauling the Student Code of Conduct related to student discipline.

Differentiating Factors: Standing Apart in the Race

What sets him apart is his extensive experience within the Cumberland County School system and his unwavering commitment to education. He has firsthand knowledge of the needs and challenges faced by our schools. Tom's comprehensive plan addresses financial support for teachers, safe learning environments, and robust public school choice options. His deep-rooted connection to the community and proven leadership make him the ideal candidate to bring positive change to District 3.
